Denver Broncos 2023 Preview. We only have one game to go in preseason before the regular season starts in September. The Broncos have lost each preseason game by only one point. I look forward to seeing how that last game goes against the Rams.
Denver finished the 2022 season at the bottom of the AFC West (5-12), one point below the Raiders (6-11). This season, they are projected to finish above the Raiders. Their first and last games of the season will be between these two teams. The first game will set the tone for the season. The Broncos hope the last game won’t have nearly as much meaning.

Offense is Betting the Farm – Again
Last season, the Broncos worked out a mega-trade with Seattle to get Russell Wilson, which would solve their quarterback problem since Payton Manning’s retirement. They thought this massive deal would turn them into a winning team again. Instead, nine-time Pro-Bowler Wilson had a bad season, which put the Broncos at the bottom of the ARC West. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett was fired before the season ended.
This offseason, they traded first and second-round picks to the Saints for head coach Sean Payton. As with Wilson, he’s a proven winner that will improve the odds for a winning team. But will this new matchup of coach and quarterback be the magic formula, or will Denver have to figure out a new approach next season?
Payton won’t be pampering Wilson as Hackett did, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem. When talking about Payton, Wilson said, “He’s intense. He’s focused. He’s such a great teacher of the game. All of us are learning every day.”
Denver’s Defense Aims to Play Even Better in 2023
The Broncos’ offense might have been in a tailspin for most of the season, but the defense remained steady until the 51-14 loss to the Rams in Week 16, Christmas Day. Hackett was fired after that, and the team improved a little bit.
The defense has one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL with Patrick Surtain II. And Justin Simmons stands out as an exceptional safety. They’re hoping linebacker Randy Gregory can live up to his expectations this year. He was injured most of last season and suspended one game for fighting. Linebackers Nik Bonitto (second-round pick) and veteran Frank Clark (from Kansas City) will hopefully add edge-rushing talent to the defense.
The only concern is that the defensive coordinator, Ejiro Evero has moved on, and he was a big part of their success. He’s replaced by former Broncos head coach Vance Joseph. Hopefully, he can keep the defense improving.
Sports Betting Predictions for Denver
The last time Denver made the playoffs was in the 2015 season. It was their fifth straight season leading the AFC West. Peyton Manning retired after that, and the team has struggled to find a replacement ever since. Russell Wilson was supposed to be that quarterback, but it didn’t happen last year. This team is used to winning but hasn’t gotten their mojo back since 2015. Whether they start their revival this year or crash and burn again, this season will be anything but boring.
