UEFA Euro 2024 Championship Review

Just like the World Cup, the UEFA Euro 2024 comes around every four years. The tournament started on June 14th and runs till the final on July 14th. In 2020, Italy won over England in penalty shots 3-2. This time around, England and France are the favorites, with Germany close behind.

Top Teams to Win the UEFA Euro 2024

England hasn’t won a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup when they beat West Germany 4-2. In 2020, they almost ended that drought when they tied Italy 1-1 in the Final, only to miss three penalties in a row to fall 3-2. This year’s squad has Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, and Jude Bellingham, some of the most dynamic goal-scorers on the planet. The only question is whether England’s defense is strong enough to withstand some of the other top players.

France, unlike England, has won tournaments in recent years, including:

  • European Championship: 2000
  • FIFA Confederations Cup: 2001 and 2003
  • World Cup: 2018
  • Nations League Finals: 2021

They are a little handicapped after struggling through a virus outbreak in their training camp. Kylian Mbappe and Kingsley Coman missed some training sessions, and during the match against Austria on Monday, Mbappe reportedly broke his nose. He may be out for Friday’s game against the Netherlands. Watch the injuries report and any updates to the odds for that game.

Germany is the host team with the third-shortest odds, even though they have not done well in the past few World Cups, only reaching the semifinals twice since the last time they won in 1996.

Croatia made it to the World Cup semifinals last year with a squad almost entirely different from the one that finished runner-up four years prior. They lost the UEFA Nations League finals on penalties in June last year. They are an experienced group, and except for Captain Luka Modrić, are still young. Croatia’s first game was a 3-0 loss to one of the top teams, Spain. They shouldn’t have a problem doing better than Albania in their group but they will need to beat Italy if they hope to advance to the Round of 16. Croatia has never won the Euros.

UEFA Euro 2024 Schedule
