The schedule is set, and the games have started. The US Open will run until Sunday, September 8th, when the men’s singles finals take place. The women’s singles finals will happen on September 7th. Let’s take a look at US Open predictions for 2024.
Top Ten Ranked Men’s Singles
The top three favorites have won the last nine Grand Slams and the 2024 Olympic gold and silver medals. But the US Open can often be where the unpredictable happens. For seven straight years, the men’s or women’s champion was someone who had never won a grand slam before. Will it happen again this year?
Player | Odds to Win |
---|---|
Jannik Sinner (Italy) | +300 |
Novak Djokovic (Serbia) | +210 |
Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) | +200 |
Alexander Zverev (Germany) | +750 |
Daniil Medvedev (Russia) | +1600 |
Andrey Rublev (Russia) | +2800 |
Hubert Hurkacz (Poland) | +10000 |
Casper Ruud (Norway) | +15000 |
Grigor Dimitrov (Bulgaria) | +12500 |
Alex de Minaur (Australia) | +10000 |
Jannik Sinner
The No. 1 seed also has the most barriers to overcome to win. He’s not considered an underdog by any means, but he pulled a tough draw, which might have him play against Medvedev, Alcaraz, and Djokovic. On top of that, he has recurring hip issues and is battling controversy regarding his doping test. Somehow, he can still play even though he tested positive twice.
His first potential top-10 opponent is No. 5 Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals.
Novak Djokovic
Conversely, Djokovic got a very favorable draw. All but one of the other top-five competitors are in the other bracket. He might have to deal with the No. 4 seed, Alexander Zverev, or No. 8 seed Casper Ruud in the semis, but he’s 4-0 against them in best-of-fives.
His first potential top-10 opponent is either No. 6 Andrey Rublev or No. 9 Grigor Dimitrov.
Carlos Alcaraz
If he wins this tournament, Alcaraz could be the first man to win five grand slam titles before his 22nd birthday. But his odds got a little longer after landing in the same half of a draw as Sinner.
His first potential top-10 opponent is either No. 7 Hubert Hurkacz or No. 10 Alex De Minaur in the quarterfinals.
Top Ten Ranked Women’s Singles
Coco Gauff won the US Open last year, but Iga Swiatek won it in 2022. Aryna Sablenka beat Swiatek in Cincinnati earlier this month in straight sets in the semifinals. These storylines, along with all the other top talent, should make for an exciting women’s portion of the tournament.
Player | Odds to Win |
---|---|
Iga Swiatek (Poland) | +350 |
Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) | +210 |
Coco Gauff (US) | +1000 |
Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) | +1100 |
Jasmine Paolini (Italy) | +4000 |
Jessica Pegula (US) | +1500 |
Qinwen Zheng (China) | +3100 |
Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) | +6500 |
Maria Sakkari (Greece) | +10000 |
Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) | +8000 |
Iga Swiatek
Losing to Qinwen Zheng in the Olympics has made Swiatek’s odds longer in the US Open. She also lost three of her last 12 matches and drew four of the top six seeds in her bracket. If her confidence is low, she can easily be knocked out before she reaches the final.
Her only hard-court grand slam win was in 2022 (US Open), and she hasn’t made it past the fourth round in a hard-court slam since then. Her first potential top-10 opponent is No. 6 Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals.
Aryna Sabalenka
A shoulder injury kept her out of Wimbledon and the Olympics earlier this year, but she glided past Switek and Jessica Pegula earlier this month to win the Cincinnati title. She didn’t drop one set.
Her first potential top-10 opponent is No. 7, Qinwen Zheng.
Coco Gauff
The winner of last year’s US Open was doing well from that win until the first week of Wimbledon this year, at which point she became mediocre. She might still be ranked No. 3 in the world, but her odds of winning this tournament are much lower than the top two females.
But she’s playing on home turf now, which should give her the boost she needs to return to her former glory. Luckily, her first potential opponent will be No. 8 Barbora Krejcikova or No. 9 Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals.
