Heineken Chinese GP Prediction- 1st Sprint of Season

Formula 1 Chinese GP Race Analysis

Driver Max Verstappen has been the Driver’s Championship leader since 2022 in Spain. That’s a 1,029-day/63-race streak. That ended in Australia when Lando Norris won the Australian opener of 2025. Verstappen came in second.

After the final downpour in Australia near the end of the race, Verstappen needed a tire change for the slicker track. This allowed Norris to regain and hold the lead for the checkered flag.

That marked Norris’ fifth career win. Verstappen came in second in four of those five wins. It’s the first time Norris has won consecutive races, also winning the season’s finale in 2024.

China & Australia: Grand Prix Recent History

The Chinese Grand Prix has been held annually since 2004, with a break from 2020 to 2023 due to COVID-19. It’s part of the Formula One World Championship and is currently held at the Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading, Shanghai.

2024 was the first year back, and Redbull took the top spot. The race, held on April 21st, was the fifth round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship. Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing won both the sprint and the main race, while Zhou Guanyu became the first Chinese Formula One driver to compete on his home track.

Chinese Grand Prix Weather and Track Conditions

This is the first time the Shanghai race will be held in March, which means the temperatures are generally lower. However, this year is uncharacteristically hotter than past years. Temperatures should reach 20 degrees Celsius on Friday and as high as 26 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

The season opened in Australia, where rain affected all three days of racing, causing spins and crashes. This made it difficult to determine who the true leaders and shakers in the sport will be this season.

But this coming weekend, the forecast is for good weather with only a small chance of rain on race day. Hopefully, it won’t happen until after the race.

The track runs 5.451 km long with 16 turns and one of the longest F1 back straights (1.2 km). The cars will drive 56 laps for a total of 305.066 km.

Top Two Contenders: Chinese GP Prediction

Verstappen is the easy choice to win this one, but if there’s any bad weather, Lando Norris, the winner of the Melbourne Australian round, might get the victory with his dominant McLaren team.

Verstappen won it last year and in 2009, the last time the Chinese Grand Prix ran. Red Bulls’ only weak point is the stricter FIA rear-wing deflection tests that start at this race. If the Red Bull team fails to adapt, they will be at a disadvantage.

But my Chinese Grand Prix prediction is that Verstappen will be motivated to win after coming so close in Australia. Without the changing weather, crashes, Safety cars, and a late downpour, the outcome might have been different.
